The 1979 Ford Bronco Ranger XLT is a classic 4×4 SUV, featuring a 400ci V8 engine paired with a 3-speed C6 automatic transmission. With 93,000 miles shown, this Bronco is finished in black paint that retains a nice luster over straight bodywork. The XLT option package adds chrome bumpers, a chrome grille, and stainless trim, all of which remain bright and well-preserved. Additional exterior features include a body-colored fiberglass roof and stainless swing-out mirrors.
The interior is a striking red that contrasts sharply with the black exterior. The cabin has been lightly restored with new fabric inserts in the original seat upholstery and new carpet. The XLT package also adds simulated wood trim on the dash and door panels and a simulated leather-wrapped steering wheel. The dash pad shows some sun damage, including a split in the padding, and there is light wear on the knobs and trim. The dashboard is equipped with factory gauges, including oil pressure, coolant temperature, and voltage, along with a power rear window switch. Although the vehicle originally came with air conditioning and cruise control, these features are currently non-functional. A Sanyo AM/FM cassette player is mounted in the dash for entertainment.
Under the hood, the 400 V8 engine has been well-maintained with recent replacements of the alternator, battery, and ignition components, including wires, distributor cap, and spark plugs. The carburetor has been upgraded to an Edelbrock model with an inline fuel filter, and the ignition coil has been replaced with an Accel high-performance unit. The power is transferred through a manual shift dual-range transfer case with locking front hubs. The undercarriage remains original and unrestored, but recent maintenance has been done to the four-wheel disc brakes, including new calipers, brake lines, a master cylinder, and a power brake booster. The XLT option also includes front and rear stabilizer bars, which are still present. An aftermarket auxiliary fuel tank has been added, and the Bronco rides on oversized Cooper Discoverer AT3 Radial tires (size 255/70R16) mounted on 16-inch Eagle Alloy rims, giving it a slightly enhanced vehicle height.
